Toby seems to lead a charmed and lucky life. He is easygoing, has a devoted girlfriend and enjoys his job. This all changes when he is attacked by two burglars in the middle of the night. He is brutally beaten and left for dead. He survives the attack and spends months recovering from his injuries. This begins the saga and mystery of his new life.
I’ve read previous Tana French novels and enjoyed them. Unfortunately, The Witch Elm was not one of them. The story idea, characters and setting were well thought out. However, the novel dragged on a bit too much. There were also some gruesome details that I could have done without.
