She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person—but also that the cold-reading skills she’s honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money. A psychological thriller featuring an unhappy family, sinister secrets, a crumbling mansion, a creepy old housekeeper…and a will. Harriet Hal Westaway, a 20-something woman barely scraping by as a tarot card reader, receives a letter one day informing her of some money she stands to inherit following the recent death of her grandmother. The problem: her grandmother has been dead for twenty years, and the money–a portion of which she can use to pay off a loan shark–surely isn’t hers… At 480 pages, The Death of Mrs. Westaway is a bit long, and even somewhat confusing. But stick with it–the characters are real, the settings are believable (you can practically see the house decaying before your eyes), and the suspense is relentless. You won’t be able to turn the pages fast enough. Read it.
