This is a duo POV, enemies to lovers, fated lovers fantasy story – but with no romance at all in this first book. I ate up J. Bree’s last series (The Bonds That Tie) so I’m surprised that this was essentially over 600 pages of showing how much Prince Soren hates her guts. Rooke is such a strong lead character and there is so much to be explored with her and her coven. She seemed to get along with just about everyone but her own fated mate, which yes, is the point of this trope. I almost wanted her to run off with the goblin king, anything, anyone! I loathed Prince Soren and his idiotic friends. Thank goodness there were women in that castle. Parts of the book kept repeating itself… The Fae loathe the witches, and they especially do not trust Rooke and her witchy ways. It’s repeated essentially every chapter. I trust in J.Bree though, and I hope the next book has Soren groveling for at least 600 pages – or else maybe she should just run back to her Ravenswyrd forest and be happier on her own.
