Nothing like a Letter! Jennifer, a writer for the Chicago Tribune, receives an early morning call saying that her grandmother, Sam has taken a fall and is in a coma. Jennifer drops everything and nervously drives north to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin about an hour away from Chicago. Most of this James Patterson novel takes place in Sam’s quaint home that sits right on Lake Geneva. Jennifer keeps writing for her job and sends in her stories while she spends most of her days at the hospital with her grandmother, Sam. They are close because Sam (Samantha) raised her. One day, she notices a large stack of letters from Sam and they are all addressed to her. They were mailed to Jennifer, but they were left in a visible location, so she knows that her grandmother wants to tell her something about her life. The first letter shocks Jennifer when Sam starts off my saying that she did not love her husband, Charles. From that point on, Jennifer takes the letters wherever she goes because she is anxious to learn more about Sam’s life. Jennifer had recently lost her dear husband on a surfing accident in Hawaii.
