Skye is looking for normal. She grew up different and it rankles. Home isn’t normal; her mom isn’t normal; and her easy-going brother is acting abnormally stressed out. Her marriage to Cam, which used to be low-key normal, has gone up in flames, along with the successful business they grew together. Skye wasn’t always Skye. Before, she was Roo, a farm girl who, unlike her brother, never fit in. Now she’s got PTSD and is mourning, nine years too late. She doesn’t know who she is or what she wants. She tries to anchor herself to tangible things: to her cooking, to her neighbour’s children, to sex. But as she relives her past and tries to plan her future, she feels increasingly dislocated. When things get too much, Skye escapes – she’s had loads of practice leaving everyone behind without looking back – before realising that this might be the most disastrous flight of her life.
