Description

Elvis In the Beat of the Night (2nd Edition) True Stories of Elvis and His Police Buddies Updated and Abridged 2nd EditionPraise for the First Edition: “Terrific…fascinating…an unvarnished view, not just of Elvis, but of Memphis that you really can’t get anywhere else. The interviews are thoughtfully and faithfully put together. They are really a work of art.
” – Peter Guralick, author of Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis PresleyRaw, engaging vignettes about the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll gone rogue with some Memphis cops, who embrace Elvis Presley as one of their own…Authentically documenting city landmarks, frozen in time yet long gone, with significant events in a way only beat cops could do, gives Elvis: In the Beat of the Night a sense of time, place and emotion that will inform, amuse, and leave you sadly grateful that true friendships never die.
Author/Artist Bob Ferguson joined the Memphis Police Department in 1958, a period when officers were among the most respected citizens in their communities. For 33 years he served dutifully in a variety of divisions within the city police department.
This led Ferguson to develop friendships with personnel from rank and file patrol officers to command officers. With a quest for adventure, Ferguson listened and skillfully engaged the officers to share their experiences with Elvis from shortly after the Presley family moved from Tupelo, Mississippi, to Memphis, throughout his days as King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, to the day they took the icon to his final rest.
Ferguson shares their humorous and heartfelt stories, along with his own, about Elvis Presley and his mutual love and respect for the men in blue. Ferguson retired in 1992 and still resides in Memphis, Tennessee.
