I did not enjoy this book. For starters, it is very poorly written. And the title is misleading. The book is not about eating animals but more about a case for vegetarianism. The introduction is nearly 80 pages long. There is about only 100 pages of actual information, which is vague, and the remaining is basically, for lack of a better word, indoctrination of why you should become vegetarianism. Although, I appreciate the information of the horrors of factory farms, I do not agree with his sentiment of being vegetarianism. He talks a lot about animal welfare, which I agree with but he thinks we shouldn’t be eating animals because it’s wrong. He hasn’t studied history. He is fortunate to live in a time of abundant food but in the past people needed to eat animals in order to survive. And if you look at bears, tigers, killer whales, wolves, you’ll find that they all eat other animals. I think there is nothing wrong with eating animals. I think it is better in moderation, say once a week. According the CBS’s 60 minutes, the people who live the longest eat it once a week. And if people would eat meat once per week or less, I’m sure the topics in this book, like health, environment, animal welfare would be much better. The truth is people like my dad love eating meat almost everyday. But he is taking a forceful approach in his book about being vegetarianism, trying to make them change, which I did not appreciate.
