For the first half of this book, I had mixed feeling about, both, it and about the lead character. The time frame is 2009. The setting is in, and around, San Francisco. 30 y.o. office manager Kate and her 37 y.o. ad executive husband, Jim, are about to have a baby. Kate goes into labor just as they get a phone call from the coroner’s office. A decomposing body was pulled from the bay, and there is a possibility it is Jim’s brother, George. It turns out the body isn’t George, but the trouble George is in is about to affect all of them. The pacing is a bit choppy, but this is likely due to the fact the author is following the ragged sleep cycle of the newborn, Laurie. Jim and Kate have to wake when the baby does. For those who prefer to know these things, there is nothing graphic.
