There’s a small stretch of grassland near Luna Park in St Kilda that local cops call ‘Blood Park’. By day children play games among the palm trees and swing sets; by night the street kids play another game altogether. When a young runaway is found dead one morning, a syringe hanging from his arm, no one is terribly shocked. A long-time habit of junkie hangout ‘Blood Park’, the kid’s criminal record was as long as the scenic railway. So it’s no surprise when local detective, Rubens McCauley, is quick to conclude Dallas Boyd died of an accidental overdose. But anomalies in the crime scene – and the haunting memory of a childhood friend – start to nag at McCauley. Unable to shake his unease, he seeks to revive the investigation into the boy’s death. Case reopened, it’s not long before McCauley finds himself up against a secret network of pedophiles, child abusers and underage prostitutes. Forced to look evil in the eye, McCauley has to conquer his own demons to find justice for a young boy he never met but has come to know intimately in death.
