A semi-autobiographical novel based on the author’s trip to Europe. The protagonist, Dr. Dev Evans, embarks on a sabbatical year in Europe, referred to as Pagany, where he seeks clarity and explores European culture, art, and people. The novel reflects Williams’ observations of both the beauty and the growing shoddiness of the old world through the eyes of an American doctor.
