Sequel to 2014’s Red Queen, the rebels have escaped to New Earth, but the US and Chinese governments continue to try to copy the rebel’s discovery of quantum gateways to follow them and destroy the threat the rebels represent to security interests. The rebels hold off government attacks and continue to develop the new technology, which will change life for everyone and open a million habitable planets for colonization. Samantha and Justin are the romantic couple at the center of the rebellion, and their fellow rebels include anarchist cyber-geeks from the Grey Tribe and some of their former professors. The rebels recruit a PR specialist from London, Daniella Pink, and begin a campaign to fight the propaganda governments have used to paint them as dangerous terrorists. When the US effort to copy their technology, led by Samantha’s former boyfriend Dylan, gets too close, the rebels destroy his multibillion dollar secret lab carved into a Colorado mountain. The Homeland Security surveillance the rebels suffered under in Red Queen is reversed, and the US President and security agencies discover they must go to great lengths to avoid the rebel’s listening ears.
The rebel government proposes a new security arrangement to the governments of Earth: they will remove all nuclear weapons, stop any armed aggression between nations and organized guerrilla activity inside them, and share the benefits of gateway technology and new colony worlds with countries that agree.
Countries begin to take them seriously as the power of their new weapons is demonstrated. When the rebels announce they have all nukes in custody, the Chinese attack Taiwan by air and sea, but find their aircraft sent to Argentina and their navy transported onto the Great Wall, while their aircraft carrier is dropped into the park next to the Forbidden City walls.
The Chinese agree, and the US finally does as well, but continues research to try to reach the rebel camp on New Earth. Dylan’s attempt to nuke the rebels using a primitive gateway results in punishment and the exile of the US President and security chiefs.
