Two things I know. I don’t like violent storms. Dana Mentink writes good stories about violent storms. When the two come together, I can count on a good, exciting read. Force of Nature is certainly one of those good reads. We met Antonia briefly in the first book of this series. It was nice to get her story in this book. Hurricane Tony is about to strike Reuben Sandoval’s island resort under renovation. He’s been working on it with Silvio and Paula, old friends of his deceased mother’s. He and Antonia were childhood friends, but split when Reuben’s nere-do-well brother, Hector, and Hector’s wife, Mia (Antonia’s sister) had a big fight resulting in Mia running off with their daughter, Grace. OK, I know this sounds like a soap opera, but life is sometimes like that. Point is that Antonia is forced by Hector’s former crime competitors back to Reuben’s island. The two are wary of each other, and at the same time still wondering about their former relationship. And then there’s mysterious hired hand, Gavin, just to make things interesting.
